A step-by-step guide to selecting and applying the correct classification badge
The AI Usage Classifications are designed to be simple to apply. Once you have registered for access through the AIUC Navigator, follow these steps to classify your work correctly.
Create your account on the AIUC Navigator. Personal use is free. Professional and organisational licences are available through the pricing page. Once registered, you will have access to the classification tool and your badge library.
Register NowBefore classifying, familiarise yourself with the five core classifications — AI-Free, Human-Led, Co-Created, AI-Led, and AI-Generated. Each has a clear definition based on the level of AI involvement in creating the artefact.
View the StandardLog in to the AIUC Navigator and use the guided assessment tool. Answer the questions about how AI was used in creating your artefact — the tool will identify the correct classification based on your answers.
Open NavigatorIf your artefact is being released in an editable format (Word, PowerPoint), add the Uncontrolled modifier. If a specific section has a different classification from the whole document, use the Caveat* modifier for that section only.
Once classified, download the badge in the format you need — PNG for documents and presentations, SVG for web use. Place the badge in a visible location on the artefact. Do not alter the badge in any way.
Your artefact is now classified and ready to share. Professional Licensees can save the classification record in the Navigator's Content Register, providing a verifiable audit trail.
If you are unsure which classification applies, review the definitions and examples on the Standard page, or read the FAQ. When in doubt, err on the side of declaring greater AI involvement.
